Ingredients:-
- 1 cup rice
- ½ cup chilkewali moong dal (split green gram)
- 1 big onion (sliced)
- 2 green chillies (finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp ghee
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- salt to taste
- Wash dal and rice well. Soak in water and keep aside.
- Meanwhile, heat ghee in a pressure cooker.
- Add onions, green chillies and cumin seeds.
- Saute till onion turns golden brown.
- Drain the water from the dal & rice.
- Add it to the pressure cooker. Mix well.
- Add 3 cups water and salt to taste.
- Pressure cook for two whistes.
- Wait for the cooker to cool and then open the lid.
- Serve hot with raita or mint chutney.
Notes:-
- If you want to make it spicier, you may add 1tsp red chilli powder, ½ tsp coriander powder, ¼ tsp turmeric powder,a pinch of all spice powder (garam masala) and asafoetida (hing) to it while tempering.
- This khichdi can be made for toddlers too, by avoiding green chillies and adding more water to make it mushy. Drizzle with ghee or butter.
Happy Cooking!!
